New superheroes set for Avengers 2

So being bored on Facebook a friend sent me a link about Avengers 2 which I am already incredibly excited for. Clicking the link I stumble across, what I personally think, is the best news for comic film fans in a long time.

It has been announced that the writer/director Joseph Whedon for the new avenger film has announced that two new avengers will be joining the team! And they are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Both of whom I am incredibly excited about. Whilst they are well known to the comic community for being the son and daughter of the powerful mutant Magneto, I am wondering whether this will be bought up in the new film which is set to be released in 2015.

Although excited I am kind of skeptical about how they are going to portray the Scarlet Witch. I know aliens and gods are not uncommon in the first Avenger film, and that it won't be as 'realistic' as the Dark Knight Trilogy, but will thy really give Scarlet Witch the almighty powers that she actually has or will they tone it down a bit. The latter would be a real shame to any comic book fan.

My last little point is that as these two new additions are actually mutants, as well as the children of a mutant, will it be mentioned/hinted at in the upcoming film? The possibility to link the 2 franchises could result in something huge for everyone, if done correctly. You have to admit that it would be freaking sweet if it led to a combined movie such as Avengers Vs X-Men (Although some key characters such as Professor X and Cyclops have already been killed off in X-men: Last Stand)

Can't wait to here more news!!

Comic Trivia Of The Day-Captain Marvel

Sorry for this really late post, been really busy with work, college etc. Anyway you don't care about that so let's crack on.

As the title suggests we are looking at Captain Marvel (spelt Mar-Vell in the marvel universe). He is a Kree superhero that has helped save the world time and time again, and he also sacrificed himself during the Avengers vs X-men storyline (Secret Avengers #28) to save the Kree world. But did you know in another entirely separate universe, not even the Marvel Universe. Yes. That's right. DC have their own Captain Marvel.

Billy Batson's alter-ego is more  famously known as Shazaam now, as part of the new 52 which has reinvented a lot of the old storyline's and characters such as our man Shazaam. Up until recently Shazaam was an actually Billy Batson's mentor who was training Captain Marvel (The two were constantly mixed up so Marvel's name was changed to Shazaam as part of the new 52 series)

Comic Trivia Of The Day- Professor X

So here is today's issue of Comic Trivia Of The Day. Enjoy!

Many people know who Charles Xavier aka Professor X is. A man who is a figurehead for the mutant community, setting up a school for the gifted for those young pupils to hone and craft their powers in order to use them for good whilst also protecting them from the prejudice outside world.

Along with being a father figure at the school, for both students and teachers (who consist of Cyclops, Storm and even Wolverine) he is also probably the worlds most powerful telepathic. He can access the minds of anyone (excluding Magneto when he wears his custom-made helmet) he can cage dark personalities within someone (the Phoenix in Jean Gray for example) whilst he can pick out your darkest secrets if he wanted to.

Since he is all so powerful, many people wonder why he is in a wheelchair since he wasn't born that way and he doesn't suffer from any debilitating illnesses. Most people, who have either read the comics or seen the film, know that Professor X was unfortunately paralysed by another. Many people believe that it was either at the hands of Magneto ( was is depicted in X-Men First Class) or by the mammoth Juggernaut. But this is not the case.

According to the main continuity line that Marvel uses, Professor Charles Xavier was actually paralysed by an alien scout named Lucifer who dropped a giant stone onto the Professor which caused Charles' legs to be crippled. Seems a bit odd that one it wasn't one of the main characters we here of when reading a comic with any involvement of the X-Men but hey-ho.

Comic Trivia Of The Day-X-men Origins: Wolverine

So today's little piece of trivia is something that I have just realised. Literally moments before I began writing this post for you.

X-men Origins: Wolverine was probably the best of all the X-men films that have been made so far. The casting was surprisingly good and even Will.I.Am did an all right job. But the supporting character I am most interested in was Ryan Reynolds He portrays a. character known as Wade Wilson. More well known in the comic books as our favourite mercenary Deadpool.

Unfortunately for us fans he didn't turn into the character we all now and love but he turned into a super-mutant with the powers of many of the other X-men including Scott Summers, Cyclops. Although he turns into a grotesque monster which many fans feel cheated out of, there were still some subtle references to the insane character.

One is that when Wade turns into the 'The Deadpool' you see that his mouth is sewn up (see below) and Stryker says how Wade always talked to much. Obviously this is a reference to the 'Merc with a Mouth '

Another little fact is that Ryan Reynolds, like a lot of us, wanted a Deadpool film but he insisted it had to be Rated-R so that it can capture all of the magic. According to the wiki-page for X-Men Origins:Wolverine, Reynolds never wanted it to be family friendly like Captain America. So we can sit-and-wait for people to forget he was in Origins and hopefully, with probable success with the new game coming out, a film will be put into production.

Comic Trivia Of The Day-The Red Hulk

Here is another issue of Comic Trivia Of The Day!!

So today we will be looking the man who has hated Bruce Banner and The Hulk equally throughout his tragic creation, General 'Thunderbolt' Ross. Before The Hulk was ever created, Ross fought in both World War II and The Korean War which is where he gained his military knowledge and tactics that he later applied to his  personal war with The Hulk.

General Ross then took it too the next level in order to beat the big green monster. He became the thing that he hated the most, a Hulk. But he wasn't the Hulk that everybody knew. The first thing you would notice would be his colouring. Unlike the the original, this new Hulk was red and appeared to have a slightly smaller build that the big green mammoth.
Another difference between the new creation and the original was the level of intellect that the new Hulk had.

The Red Hulk maintained all of the memories and intellect along with all of his army tactics where as Bruce Banner's Hulk was a primitive, cave-man, type, beast.

"I was General Thunderbolt Ross. I became the very thing that I hated most in life. I am the Red Hulk. And for all I've done... I deserve to die......"  The Red Hulk

Comic Trivia Of The Day- Deapool's Face

So today Ladies and Gents we will once again be looking at Marvels favourite lunatic Deadpool.

As mentioned before, Deadpool was part of the weapon x programme ( the same programme that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton). Obviously poor Wade's body couldn't handle the stress and he turned a lot crazy, talking to himself all of the time (read any Deadpool comic) But as you can see in the picture above, Wade Wilson does not have the prettiest face in the world.

This is actually a result of being part of the weapon x program. Because of the healing factor that was added to Deadpool, the tumours he was trying to cure also kept healing themselves thus causing a huge internal battle within the body of Deadpool, hence the patchy face.

Comic Trivia Of The Day-Stan Lee & Bob Kane

Stan Lee is one of the most recognisable writers/ person to work for comics in possibly the entire world. Introducing some of the most famous marvel characters that have graced the pages of comics including; Spiderman, Hulk, Thor, Ironman plus many other characters and major events throughout his years at Marvel!

But did you know that Stan Martin Lieber ‘Lee’ attended the same high school, Dewitt Clinton High, as the man known for effectively creating graphic novels, Will Eisner as well as the creator of Batman and the majority of his famous enemies, Bob Kane. Who, along with Stan ‘the man’ Lee, is one of my favourite people within the comic book industry.

Comic Trivia Of The Day-The Avengers

Today we will be looking at the avengers.

A hit movie released in 2012, it allowed for many people to start getting into superheroes and comics as well. The film allowed viewers to witness the partnership between Ironman, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Nick fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

But did you know the original line-up for the avengers (that was introduced in 1963) consisted of; ant man, Thor, ironman, Hulk and Wasp. Obviously ant-man and wasp never made an appearance, well they could have, but they were probably too small for anyone to notice .....

Comic Trivia Of The Day- Deadpool

Today we will be looking at Deadpool, Yayyy!

Probably one of Marvels most popular characters, this anti-hero is probably the most psychotic person ever to grace the pages of comics and yet we all love him! The fact that he is getting his own game, which looks awesome and should be out this Summer!!!

Anywho, Did you know that Deadpool was part of Department K (in Canada) which was secretly working on the Weapon II-X project (where Wolverine was upgraded). By going rouge, Wade Wilson was sent to The Hospice were rogue superheroes were sent for rehabillitation. This was just a place where the people in charge Doctor Killebrew and Ajax tortured Wade, putting a 'dead pool' on him where people bet to see how long it would take him to die and thus this is how he turned into a nutcase and how Wade Wilson will always be better known as Deadpool

Comic Trivia Of The Day- Infinity Gauntlet

Continuing with your daily trivia, here's some more!

Today we will be looking at the infinity gauntlet, possibly the strongest weapon ever in the world of comic books, certainly more powerful than any green lantern ring.
Thanos created the gauntlet in order to become the strongest entity in the universe, and wielder of the worlds. Thanos created this great feat by collecting the 6 infinity gems; Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality and Power.

Thanos managed to wield the gauntlet to wipe out over half of the universe including the Fantastic 4, the majority of the X-men and Daredevil as well. Eventually Thanos was defeated by his Granddaughter, Nebula

Comic Trivia of the Day-Fantastic Four

Did you know that, according to the new magazine, Marvel Fact Files, that the very first magazine only cost 10 cents in 1961 but in 2012 it would set you back around $300,000.

That is obviously if its a pristine unused, unread copy which a collector had enough sense to invest in. With a 3,000,000% inflation rate over the past 51 years (averagely it would be about
58823.53% per year although this clearly did not happen every year)

So people resist the urge to open your awesome comics and save them for the future!!!! Jk i couldnt wait 50 years to becone rich knowing that im missing out on the good stuff, just sell 'em on ebay once your favourite hero or villain is dead.

Spider-man and Red Hood, Who's copying who?

Ok so I admit the title must be a bit misleading and I can understand why but please hear me out.

After reading through the first issue of Marvel Fact Files I noticed the outfit that Spider-man wore whilst battling the Sinister Six in the series Amazing Spider-Man (Issue 682) you can see that Spider-man is donning a different costume compared to his usual red and blue spandex. Although looking pretty bad-ass in his outfit, I cant help noticing the mask that he has donned for this mission looks pretty damn similar to that of Jason Todd's Red Hood costume, especially in the animated film 'Under the Red Hood' (which, personally, is the best animated comic book film I have ever seen)

Due to the comic being published in March 2012 it appears that Marvel has 'borrowed' the idea off of the DC character. Due to the fact that there are close to a thousand different characters through out the pages of comics and I'm sure anyone of us would struggle to come up with a tenth of the amount of designs floating about.

I also doubt very much that the artists copied the idea more likely it was subliminal and you have to admit, the mask goes with the awesome armour really well.

Comic-com, wooooo!!!!

As you may or may not know, the MCM expo is coming to London, UK once again and I've finally got my ticket (not to brag but yay me :P). By purchasing an early entrance weekend ticket for less than £30(!) I want to provide a little diary of what will be going on there and maybe I'll get to talk to a few famous people as well. Comic-legend Mr. Stan Lee was at the convention last year so hopefully the line-up is as good.

As most of you may know this is also an excuse to do my first bit of cosplaying, which I'm really excited about! The plan is to go as Thomas 'Tommy' Elliot, better known throughout the DC world as Hush from Batman. Hopefully I'll be able to upload a picture of the finished product soon enough. Hopefully it doesn't suck too much.
Any ideas of what I should look at or do there would be great and if you comment below that would be awesome.

If you want to go to the MCM expo in London I've put a link at the bottom from where you cab buy the tickets (from the official MCM London site)
Also, another link below is the music video that MCM made with all the cos-players from last year.

Hope you guys and girls enjoy it and hopefully you'll give the diary a read in May.

Remember to +1 and follow the blog (only got atm :/) also tell you're friends and will hopefully see you guys in London some time soon :)

Avengers VS X-Men Movie

Okay so if you read this and became a little bit too excited I apologise now. :P

With the new comic book series becoming such a success, I was thinking how awesome it would be if they made a movie(s) later down the line. With the avengers movie success as well as the older X-men films, it would seem right to make this movie. The Avengers wad classed as a sort of super movie due to the fact that it bought together a number of individuals, all with successful films of  their own, and put them into one epic movie.

Although there maybe new X-men origins films coming out, they could place the Avengers VS X-men film(s) in between. The problem with adding the X-men to the mix is that in 'X-men Last Stand' three of the main characters died (Cyclops, Professor X and Jean Grey/Phoenix) How this could be sorted in a film I'm not really sure  because it is very unlikely that they'll be the fallen X-men back from the dead. Maybe they would put more of the lime-light on different members of the X-men, like Colossus or Archangel whilst still keeping the big names like Storm and Wolverine in the mix.

Another problem is who would win. Obviously the comic book series is still going on which means none of us fans know who is going to win the war. This could mean  that it would take years before the movie went into production which would really suck.

So, who do you want to win the massive Marvel war which could change the whole of the Marvel universe forever.
Comment below with your thoughts about ideas and whatnot. If you like this post please follow me on Blogger and +1 this post. You would be awesome :D

Greatest Comic Book Villain Ever Series- Xmen

If you haven’t read Greatest Comic Book Villain Ever Series-Spiderman click the link below.

All right so this is the second post in the series and it will be looking at 4 of the biggest villains in the Xmen universe.  The list of villains is: Magneto, Mystique, Sabertooth and General William Striker. I didn’t include the Phoenix because she can switch between good and evil. Also there would be no competition with her in it.

Magneto
He is the leader of the Brotherhood and the main enemy of the Xmen. Magneto believes that mutant kind should rule over all those who do not possess any special abilities. His manipulation of metal allows him to be a real threat to anyone, especially in a city like environment where there are cars, lampposts etc. Magneto also has a major advantage over some members of the Xmen like Wolverine and Colossus whose body is made out of metal. Magneto’s mutant powers aren’t the only thing that makes him a dangerous foe but it’s his power of manipulation and persuasion which provides a major problem for the Xmen. If his comrades have been defeated by the Xmen, he can always get new people to join the Brotherhood to replace the fallen. The helmet that he wears makes Magneto invulnerable to mind control and psychic location meaning that no one can read his thoughts or track him you the use of Cerebus.

Mystique
Her athletic prowess is what really makes mystique a danger in a one on one situation. Her gymnastic style offense makes her almost impossible to catch and ground when she is fighting the Xmen. As well as her athletic ability her main power is shape shifting or mimicking other people in order to hide from, spy on or kill someone. The only downfall of Mystiques is that any mutant with a psychic ability will be able to determine who she really is even if she takes up another form.
Sabertooth
Shown in the comics to be a sort of natural equivalent to Wolverine, minus the adamantium skeleton. A dangerous beast with excessive strength and speed as well as a heightened sense of smell means that Sabertooth can easily track down the members of the Xmen and could tear them apart, limb from limb. The extendable fingernails/claws that he possesses and the fact that he has a similar healing ability to Wolverine makes it virtually impossible for anyone who wants to stop Sabertooth.

General William Striker
General Striker is a man working within a secret branch of the armed forces whose main goal is to ‘protect’ the world from mutant-kind hence, wipe them off the face of the earth. Striker possesses no powers of his own since he isn’t a mutant but he is extremely calculating when attempting to lure in his next victim, be it from the Xmen or the Brotherhood. Striker was also part of the weapon x program (which ended up being an Adamantium filled Wolverine). Striker would manipulate mutants into getting what he wants and then would have no problem what so ever with killing them there and then as soon as they become useless.

FIGHT 1:  Magneto VS Sabertooth
If it were a close range battle, hand to hand combat, I would give the win to Sabertooth as he could easily tear apart Magneto if he got hold of him. The thing is Magneto is smart and knows that he would never at close quarters. He would use his ability to levitate to avoid any direct conflict and then use his powers of metal manipulation to crush Sabertooth under a girder or some other metal structure. Magneto could pin down Sabertooth but I doubt he would kill him. WINNER: MAGNETO

FIGHT 2: Mystique VS General Striker
Even before the fight would have started, Mystique would have already infiltrated Strikers life learning all of his strengths and weaknesses. Don’t think that the general wouldn’t do his homework as well though. Striker would know all about Mystique’s athletic ability and would try and figure out a plan to grounding her. When it comes down to the actual fight though, Striker could try and shoot her a hundred times she’s just too fast, causing him to lose his ground as well as his life however he does gain a broken neck from the bout though. WINNER: MYSTIQUE.

FINAL FIGHT: Magneto VS Mystique
The problem with this fight is that Mystique is devoted to the Brotherhood and Magneto himself which would cause her not to attack her leader with her full potential. Magneto, using his powers of persuasion would lure the vulnerable Mystique and lead her into a full sense of security. This would lead to her being piled under a sheer amount of dense metal which would maim and not kill her.
FINAL VICTOR: MAGNETO

Greatest Comic Book Villain Ever Series-Spiderman

All right so last night I was thinking about who the greatest Comic Book villain was in the history of Comics and decided to come up with a series of posts eliminating those who do not make the grade. This series includes both Marvel and DC comics as well as Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.
So this first blog is about the villains of Spiderman. My choices to review are; Venom , Carnage, Green Goblin and Dr Octopus.

Venom

A symbiotic life form that arrived from a different planet. The symbiote venom turns who ever it is joined to into a violent person , robbing their humanity and this makes me them more dangerous than ever. Latching onto Eddie Brock, the dangerous Venom is effectively a stronger and faster version than Spiderman. This could be due to the alien life form but it could also be due to the fact that Brock has for Peter Parker.Venom is cold and calculating, luring in his victims, including Spiderman, in an attempt to kill him.

Carnage

Like with Venom, Carnage is also a symbiote which latches onto the crazy and deranged  serial killer Cletus Kassidy. With his previous mental instability, Carnage is the most unpredictable, violent and dangerous Spiderman villains ever.He has similar abilities to both Spiderman and Venom but his erratic behaviour, along with his desire for killing, makes the villain one of the most dangerous in the whole of the marvel universe.

Green Goblin

Norman Oscorp was a brilliant scientist who owned Oscorp Industries. He injected himself with a special formula in order to become stronger, faster and have an increase in stamina.  The only problem is that the serum turned him extremely aggressive as well as being insane. Green Goblin took out a personal vendetta against  Spiderman  and even kidnapped Peter Parker's child. The most dangerous thing though is that the original Green Goblin inspired others to follow his footsteps like his son Harry as well as inspiring the many incarnations of Hobgoblin.

Dr Octopus

Octo Octavius was another brilliant scientist until his experiment went wrong. 4 metal arms were fused to his body and are controlled by the doctors mind. The mechanical arms increase the speed and strength of Octavius whilst wielding them pin point accuracy. The arms have been upgraded over the years to do various tasks like shooting lasers etc.

FIGHT 1:  Venom vs Green Goblin
Although  the Green Goblin has a number of weapons in his arsenal I believe that Venom would take advantage and make the kill due to his symbiotic speed and ruthlessness.
WINNER: VENOM

FIGHT 2: Carnage vs Doctor Octopus
All though the mechanical arms of Doc Ock would do some serious damage to Carnage, I think that the deranged mind of Carnage would somehow find a way of tearing off the metal attachments of Doctor Octopus and eventually causing his death.
WINNER: CARNAGE

FINAL FIGHT: Venom vs Carnage
Although both villains are symbiotes I believe that Carnage would have the upper hand due to the completely  deranged and violent mind of Kassidy. Venom would put up a good fight but I see this turning out like the comics with Carnage on top.

Winner of the Spiderman Villain heats:

CARNAGE
