Comic-com, wooooo!!!!

As you may or may not know, the MCM expo is coming to London, UK once again and I've finally got my ticket (not to brag but yay me :P). By purchasing an early entrance weekend ticket for less than £30(!) I want to provide a little diary of what will be going on there and maybe I'll get to talk to a few famous people as well. Comic-legend Mr. Stan Lee was at the convention last year so hopefully the line-up is as good.

As most of you may know this is also an excuse to do my first bit of cosplaying, which I'm really excited about! The plan is to go as Thomas 'Tommy' Elliot, better known throughout the DC world as Hush from Batman. Hopefully I'll be able to upload a picture of the finished product soon enough. Hopefully it doesn't suck too much.
Any ideas of what I should look at or do there would be great and if you comment below that would be awesome.

Pokemon- Best of the Best :Generation 1

So with the 6th generation of Pokemon being announced only a few days ago I have decided to come up with a series of posts that will determine what is actually the best pokemon (out of the current 649) to have in your line-up. So we begin with generation 1.
The list of candidates are: Charizard, Dragonite, Mewtwo, Gyarados, Eevee and Gengar.

Charizard
Type:Fire/Flying
Advantage over: Grass,Bug, Steel, Fighting, Ice
Weakness: Water, Rock and Electric.

Charizard is considered to be one of the best pokemon ever due to it being; 1, from the original game, 2, stupidly rare to get in the original pokemon game( which I know anyone would sell there grandmother for before the invention of Ebay) and 3, It just looks so  badass.  The combination of both Fire and Flying gives it a major tactical advantage over types like grass and bug which were prominent throughout the first generation. Even when you get to the Elite 4 Charizard proves itself useful by learning dragon-type moves which easily allow anyone to cut through Lance, the final member of the Elite 4. Another thing which makes Charizard one of the best is the fact that is that it needs to be levelled up the highest of all three starter pokemon and it has the least advantage types over the Kanto gym leaders showing that it needs a lot of hard work in order to successfully train.

Dragonite
Type: Dragon/Flying
Advantage over:  Dragon, Fighting
Weakness against: Dragonite is one of the hardest pokemon to acquire in any game due to the fact that you need to be fortunate enough to catch a Dratini and then train it up level 55 (the highest of the game at the time) in order to get it. As well as being rare in any circumstance it also a dragon type which means its only has very little weaknesses, (the only real problem is Lance from the Elite 4). The only other type that it is weak against Dragonite is Ice which is also extremely rare in Gen1.

Mewtwo
Type: Psychic
Advantage over: Fighting, poison
Weakness:Dark and Ghost

Destined to be the most powerful pokemon out of the original 151 pokemon from generation 1. Whether it was in the first Pokemon film or in the game you knew it was special. Hell, you had to beat the Elite 4 even before you had a chance of catching it. Even then you had to battle your way through the cave of origins until you faced it at Level 70 (on of the few pokemon out of all the games that this applies to). Although it only uses psychic attacks, it's base stats are far beyond anything seen throughout the whole of the Kanto region. Being unable to catch it before the Elite 4 and your rival (for the final time) shows how strong and special this Pokemon actually is. When fighting through the Elite 4 for a second time its psychic type moves can be used to rip through them, especially Bruno, making Mewtwo a must have on anyone trainers team.

Gyarados
Type: Water/Flying
Advantage over: Rock, Ground, Fighting, Fire and Bug
Weak against: Electric, Grass and Ice

Evolving from one of the most useless pokemon ever, Magikarp,Gyarados is usually a must have for any trainer, no matter what generation they are playing. With its extensive stats from when it evolves from magikarp to the fact that it can learn a variety of different types of attack meaning that it can be used to wipe out a whole bunch of trainers that stand in your way without the need to ever switch out. If trained high enough, and with the right TM's, it can learn; Fire Blast, Blizzard, Thunder, Dragon Rage, Hyper Bean and Hydro pump as well as a number of others to make it one of the easiest and most dangerous pokemon to have on your team.

Eevee
Type: Normal
Advantage: None
Weak against: Fighting, Ground, Rock and Ghost

I know that Eevee is obviously not the strongest or faster on this list by any means but it does have that unique ability for trainers to use. What ever the trainers strengths or desires, Eevee can evolve in order to satisfy the needs of many a trainer. Whether it is just the first generation of Eeveelutions; Jolteon, Vaporeon  or Flareon, or whether you have the later generation of evolutions, having an Eevee probably causes the second most difficult choice a trainer has to face, what should I evolve it in to? (obviously the most difficult is choosing your starter pokemon right at the beginning of the game) Well this isn't much of a problem if you own  Pokemon Black 2 or Pokemon White 2 but shhhh.

Gengar

Type: Ghost
Advantage over: Normal, Psychic and Fighting
Weak against: Dark

Gengar is one of the very few pokemon from generation 1 that needed to be traded in order to posses it (the others being Machamp and Alakazam) Gengar is also part of the only ghost type pokemon which appears in the original games meaning that if you possess it you were something of a pro back in the day of its release. Another reason why it being a ghost type has its advantages is the fact that certain moves have literally no effect on it at all (normal and fighting type moves) which means that when you are facing Bruno of the Elite 4 your going to be doing pretty well. Gengar can potentially possess some awesome and powerful combinations within its moveset such as hypnosis followed up by dream eater which prevents the enemy from attacking it whilst doing some serious damage with the Dream Eater attack

So there is my list of the potential ultimate pokemon from Generation 1. There's going to be a poll on the side of the blog for people to vote for their favourite choice. The pokemon with the most votes will be declared the best of generation one and will move onto the finals with the winners of the other generations will meet in an all out battle to the death! (bit OTT? :P )

Pokemon Generation 6 is Coming!!!

So it was announced via live stream that Pokemon generation 6 will becoming to us all (for the first time ever) in October this year.  Initially I was excited about hearing of this announcement as so I watched the English version on the guardian.co.uk. After roughly 8 minutes of anticipation and the history of the pokemon games it was finally announced that Pokemon X and Y will be released towards the end of this year.

Watching the trailer I noticed some immediate differences between this up-and-coming title and its predecessors. First of all 'X' and 'Y' will be on the 3DS and there appears to be a lot of graphical changes to the gameplay, especially with the pokemon battles, in this new instalment  With the increased power of the 3DS compared to its previous formats, pokemon battles now appear to have a more animated feel, actually moving when attacking and dodging, similar to Pokemon Colosseum. With that said however, the trailer shows that this generation of Pokemon seem to have a more cartoonish feel to it which may put some people off.

Another addition with the 3D element is actually whilst you are roaming around. It appears that the player will have more of a eye-level view of the pokemon world when you travel across the routes, through the towns and cities, caves and across the oceans which I personally believe will immerse the gamer even more. Saying this, and from speaking to other people who told me where to find the announcement, as a group we feel that it is a big change to Pokemon and some feel that it could be losing its identity. For 15 years (17 if you're from Japan) Pokemon has had roughly the same birds-eye-view that we have grown up with although obviously there has been some graphic updates which was definitely necessary to help grow to be the phenomenon that it is. With the introduction of a fully 3D environment and player some people may find that nostalgia may get in the way when trying to determine whether or not it will actually be a good game or ,if they believe, Gamefreak and Nintendo are just trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the pokemon franchise. Anyway enough of that, onto the starters.

It was revealed in the announcement what the three  starter Pokemon will be; Chespin (grass-type), Froakie (water-type) and Fennekin (fire-type). From first glance I have to say that I'm not impressed  with Chespin. Nothing about it shouts grass type to me other than its little green crown. saying this however, I am kind of excited to see what it involves to, probably (and hopefully) into something that looks epic. Although my feeling about Chespin isn't great at the moment, I do however like the other 2 starters. Froakie is your typical water type pokemon which GameFreak usually do well for each generation. Fennekin looks impressive already as a starter making me want to know what the fire-fox involves into at later stages of the game. These aren't the only new pokemon that were revealed in the trailer however, we get legendaries.

Towards the end of the trailer we get a brief glimpse at the two each showing symbolises with their respective games. the bird in the shape of the 'Y' and the many antlers on the blue deer represent the 'X' for its game. From the brief glimpse we got the legends, in my mind, look pretty impressive. Personally I think think that they are the best looking ones in a long time (excluding the black/white kyurem of course). These Pokemon will probably be an essential in any trainers team when facing the new Elite 4.

This concludes my little piece on the new Pokemon announcement. Hopefully it will be as good as Black 2 and White 2 that was only released last year. What do you think? Drop a comment below and express your thoughts.

Star Wars Battlefront 3?

So the internet and the news has been buzzing with news that Disney has purchased both LucasFilms and Lucas arts and we already know that there are going to be remakes of all the films as well as: Star Wars Episode 7-9 which undoubtedly will be frickin' awesome.

The thoughts of most gamers now is will Disney will inject a ton of money into Battlefront 3 to give the fans what they have been craving for years now. Let's be honest Disney would make an absolute killing in the game, especially if they are doing post- Return of the Jedi as well, enticing all the hardcore Star Wars  fans as well as giving all of the fans an epic experience, especially since PSN and XBOX Live has really taken off since Battlefront 2. 32 player online battles, both in space and on numerous planets that are present in the films as well as others from the Star Wars universe.

It has been reported from http://www.battlefront3.com/ that the game was already in it's final phases before it was eventually scrapped. This can be seen as slightly encouraging though since Disney clearly have the money to fund this project. Hell they could do it from scratch and produce one the best first-person shooters of the year, maybe even ever.

Although it's only been a recent purchase for Disney, there should be serious talks about this game. If not now, there should be soon. And if there's not, as fans of either the games, the films or general Star Wars universe or all above the mentioned, we as fans should start a petition to get this game into production.

Pokemon and Digimon, the same thing?

So no one can argue that Pokemon has one of the biggest fan bases of all time whether you are a fan of the Anime, Manga, games or just everything, you would expect that Pokemon would be classed as one of the best things ever, which in my opinion it is. However you cannot count Digimon out . Yes. the fan base is a lot smaller than that of Pokemon and the series isn't still going but please just take a moment to realise how awesome it truly was.

Starters 
To start with I'm going to look at the similarities and differences of Pokemon and Digimon when it comes to the starter partners that each character in both series has. With both Pokemon and Digimon you get a starter whether it's Ash's Pikachu or Tai's Agumon, everybody in both series has one. The difference is that in Pokemon you have the option to collect more Pokemon and add them to your team (which most people do) where as in Digimon you stick with your digital monster throughout and you both remain loyal to each other. Although both seem to be loyal to their trainers/friends, Digimon seem to be more determined in protecting their partners from any incoming danger, defending their human counterpart willingly compared to Pokemon who are made to be battled.

Evolution
Whether Pokemon evolve into something awesome such as Magikarp to Gyarados or Feebas to Milotic the evolution in pokemon is effectively always better for the trainer.  Also the permanent change ensures that the trainers pokemon is the best it can be (not including EV training). The difference with Digimon is that the effects aren't permanent and they return to their original state after battle. 
Another difference between the two series is the amount of evolutions Pokemon or Digimon can have. Discounting Eevee, Pokemon have a maximum of three stages of evolution. An example of this is Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur and Ivysaur evolves into Venasaur. This is not the case however since Digimon can have a number of evolutions along with the digi-egg evolutions as well. The picture below will show you all of the possible stages of Agumon.


Attacks
When attacking an opponent, Pokemon can have a variety of moves (limited to 4 moves in the game) at their disposal in order to beat their rival where as Digimon appear to be limited to one, maybe two, moves per evolution. Although they have very little variety in the offence that they use, Digimon appear not to suffer from type disadvantages where as Pokemon do. So an example of this is if a Gyrados used thunder against Gabumon, it would do now more damage than if it used Hydro Pump which would put Digimon at an advantage if the two series went to war (which would be awesome :3)

So as you can see from reading this blog is that Pokemon and Digimon are definitely not the same thing, even if one or two have similar looking monsters in their arsenal they are totally different which makes it more enjoyable for fan of either series or especially both.

Greatest Comic Book Villain Ever Series- Batman part 2

Okay so the list of villains for this post is: The Riddler, Raz al Guhl, Bane and the Penguin. These guys were left out of the first part to create a more dynamic and diverse selection at the end. Okay so here we go

The Riddler

Edward Nigma is a genius whose obsession with riddles makes him one of the most theatrical Batman villains of all time. Giving a riddle to his victims, in which getting it wrong means instant death (the fate which happens to most of the unfortunate people the Riddle comes into contact with).Riddler isn’t really the type of person to use guns or go in a fist fight but he does have his custom made ‘?’ cane which he can use to beat his victims if he so chooses. The cane can also be used for setting off his traps if Batman gets to close.

Raz al Guhl

Leader of the league of shadows and master of several martial art techniques means that Raz al Guhl is probably the most deadly fighter that Batman has ever come across. Raz al Guhl was also Batman’s mentor, training him, improving his fighting technique and increasing Bruce Wayne’s potential to fight crime. This proves a real problem for the dark knight because R.A.G knows Batman’s moveset and will possibly be able to predict his offensive attack. Raz al Guhl also has a serious hatred for crime which is shown in both the comics and the first and last films in the Dark Knight series. This hatred will prove very useful in the fights against the other competitors in this series.

                                                          Penguin

Penguin is a mob boss through and through, just with added psychosis to help him achieve his extreme goals with an ‘any means necessary’ attitude. He is extremely ruthless and an unforgiving person as if you fail him you are likely to get killed. Wielding nothing more than a gun and his ‘special’ umbrella, Penguin is the type of person who doesn’t and will just kill you now just to get you out of the way rather than interrogating his victims first.

Bane

A venom fuelled behemoth with amazing strength that even Killer Croc was overpowered by. The venom turns Bane into a monster with destruction on his mind, be it people or places. All though juiced up with venom, Bane is also intelligent which helps him in fight situations. Bane wields nothing more than his fists as he needs no other weapon, showing you how strong he is. Finally Bane will always be known as the man(/monster) who ‘broke the bat

’

FIGHT 1 The Riddler VS Raz al Guhl

In a random encounter with no previous preparation the Raz al Guhl would be able to slice The Riddler into two almost instantly. However if it were a planned scenario with The Riddler setting traps then he would have a much needed advantage of the leader of the League of Shadows. All though these riddles and traps would prove to be a much harder task for Raz al Guhl, he would still be able to pass them all, running his blade through the chest of The Riddler. WINNER: Raz al Guhl.

FIGHT 2: Bane VS The Penguin

This fight would just be the pure strength of Bane against the sheer aggressiveness of The Penguin. Although Penguin would fire shot after shot into the rampaging Bane, Penguin wouldn’t be able to stop the leviathan from charging at him. Bane would easily lift and throw The Penguin through a wall, severely crippling him. WINNER: BANE

FINAL FIGHT: Raz al Guhl VS Bane

It would be a student vs teacher fight to the death between these two, Raz al Guhl would have speed on his side where as Bane would obviously have the strength advantage over his enemy. Hitting Bane with multiple kicks, punches and sword strikes, Raz al Guhl would be able to slow the venom induced beast down but not be able to stop him. Bane would be able to grab his former master and break him into two just like he did with Batman. Raz al Guhl wouldn’t die but a little trip to a Lazarus pit may be in order.

WINNER: BANE
